Week 8: AI in Ads Have you ever been talking to your friend about a topic and possibly even googled something and now this topic is all over your social media and you are seeing ads for it everywhere? This is another form of AI. Websites uses tools called cookies to collect data about what you are looking at, for how long and if you are returning to the website or a certain item.  The more you use your computer the more it will get to know you. For instance if you online shop a lot you will gets ads on your social media or even in your email for stores you look at regularly. You will even see the specific items you have looked at on your feed.  If you look up a lot of recipes you will get ads for cook books and cooking supplies.  This is one way companies use AI to market themselves. To be honest this tactic has worked on me more than once because the more times the item has popped up the more I think about it and convince myself I need it. AI is used is all around us whether we know

Week 8: Tools to Continue Learning AI Whether you like to read, listen to videos or podcasts, or take a more formal approach and go back to school there are endless ways to continue learning about AI. It is vital to continue evolving technologically. To continue learning about AI, you can explore a variety of tools, books, and websites that offer valuable resources and information on the subject. Here are some suggestions: Books: "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach" by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig "Deep Learning" by Ian Goodfellow, Yoshua Bengio, and Aaron Courville "Machine Learning: A Probabilistic Perspective" by Kevin P. Murphy "Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" by Christopher M. Bishop "Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies" by Nick Bostrom Websites and Online Platforms: Coursera: Offers a range of AI and machine learning courses from universities and institutions worldwide. edX: Provides access to vari

Week 7: Women in AI

Image
Week 7: Women in AI  There is a significant imbalance of men to ratio in the AI research field. Males tend to dominate these roles but there are still women out there putting in the work. This includes Fei-Fei Li, Corinna Cortes, Rana el Kalioub, Kate Crawford, Rumman Chowdhury, and Anima Anandkumar. These women have all been very active and influential in areas of AI.  Fei-Fei Li is a computer scientist that once worked for Google. She established ImagineNet and is the co-director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI. Corinna Cortes is a Danish computer scientist and is currently a Vice President at Google Research in New York City. Rana el Kaliouby is a pioneer in the field of affective computing and the co-founder of Affectiva, an AI company specializing in emotion recognition technology. Kate Crawford expert in the social implications of AI and co-founder of the AI Now Institute, a research center dedicated to studying the societal impacts of AI. Rumman Chowdhury i

Week 7: Deep Learning

Image
Week 7: Deep Learning Deep learning is a specialized form of machine learning that focuses on developing algorithms  and models inspired by the structure of the human brain. More specifically it is modeled after the neuron network in the brain. Deep learning models are designed to automatically learn and represent data in increasingly complex ways by using multiple layers of representations. The term deep learning can be traced back as far as the 1940's but did not regain popularity until the 2000's when it was reintroduced to the academic community. Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, and Yann LeCun are researchers that have been coined the godfathers of deep learning. These individuals significantly advanced deep learning algorithms, architectures, and applications, laying the foundation for the widespread adoption of deep learning across various disciplines. The main components of deep learning are Artificial Neural Networks, Deep Neural Networks, Training Algorithms, and U

Week 6: AI Day to Day cont.  According to Chat GPT using AI in your daily life can increase your productivity, convenience and possibly entertainment. You are probably already using AI on a regular basis without even knowing it. If you use Siri on your iPhone or have any smart devices such as an Amazon Alexa or a Google Home you are already adapting to using AI. In your email if you are using any filters on your inbox, surprise, you are using AI.  AI can help plan vacations and be a personal assistant. You can keep track of all your appointments and flights on your phone simply by telling Siri to put it on your calendar and send you a reminder the day before. Another way AI can help in your day to day life is by finding you new shows to watch. By typing ideas of what you want to watch into Chat GPT it will give you suggestions and where to watch.  AI can help in your daily life in just about anyway you can imagine. Translating different languages, health and fitness, personal finance,
